Why I Started Blogging Again
This site died once. Three years ago, on the day my domain expired, I let it go — like closing down a shop that no longer opens: the shutter drops, and it drops with a strange peace of mind. In those years my writing scattered everywhere — three-hundred-word posts on WeChat Moments, outlines buried in work documents, long paragraphs typed to friends late at night and then retracted.
Retracting, I think, is what I've written most these past few years.
Every retraction felt like folding a finished letter back up and tucking it into the bottom of a drawer. The drawer grew fuller, the paper more creased. Someday it had to be spread open again.
So I renewed the domain and rebuilt a static site with the plainest tools available. No comments, no recommendation feed, no "subscribe for updates" popup. The traffic is pitiful — on day one it was me, plus two or three old friends. But as I typed the first line, I found a state I hadn't been in for years: no rush, no audience to appease, just the wish to say things clearly.
Writing on someone else's platform is like speaking in someone else's living room: your volume, your wording, even your topics are tuned to the host's face. Your own site is your own study — you may stop mid-sentence to boil a kettle, publish without revising, or even not publish at all. Today, for once, I did neither.
I've also started re-understanding what "writing it down" means. It is often not about persuading anyone, not even about communicating; it is about pinning the fog inside your head into a shape you can see. The fog lifts in a few days; the words on the paper stay.
I won't promise weekly updates, or even monthly ones. Just a single rule too small to hide behind: write when I want to, ship it when it's done, no drafts folder.
If you too have typed a long paragraph at midnight only to delete it, perhaps this little study has a seat for you. The tea is on; come slowly.
